A Manchester-based architecture practice has submitted plans to demolish a 1970s office block in the city centre and replace it with a new residential-led scheme, adding to a growing list of post-war commercial buildings being cleared to make way for housing. The proposal, lodged with Manchester City Council, would see the concrete-framed office tower — typical of the brutalist stock built during the city's 1970s commercial expansion — replaced with a mixed-use residential development, reflecting a pattern now visible across the city's core: from Spinningfields to Ancoats, tired office stock is being systematically retired in favour of apartments.
